Our Sources

Locally Sourced

Supporting Our Neighbors First

In keeping with the ethos of the Jefferson GAP Coalition, Bushel and Peck’s first choice when sourcing our inventory is local/ regional producers, farms, artisans and distributors. There is a wondrous and varied community to choose from whose members are passionate, professional and easy to work with. However, this does present a challenge. Though many growers do have high tunnels and greenhouses and are able to grow year-round, and the numbers for this are growing, many do not. This means the idea of seasonal becomes important and sometimes limits what is available to us within our region. Though local meats are almost always available, vegetables are not. So we start local, meaning Jefferson County and surrounding areas, then we step out as needed.

Meeting all your Grocery Needs

Another of GAP’s primary concerns is a healthy community which includes trying to provide a well-rounded shopping experience, displaying local products beside better known regional and national products and providing healthier alternatives from your “normal” grocery store would be. At Bushel and Peck, we start local, then regional, then a little farther out, then what we need and where we can get it. Being a smaller store we can’t always get what we want, but as the song says when we try we “can get what we need” to provide a good experience. We do source things from West Virginia as if they were local and hope to be more involved in the effort to make WV healthier.
